The new Monopoly

Perhaps I’m already becoming one of those old codgers that hates any change. But is this really necessary? The new Monopoly: Here and Now Electronic Banking Edition.

Monopoly has always had their novelty editions catering to whatever niche you find yourself in. Whether it’s your favorite sports team, or TV show. But I think this new edition highlights a worrisome trend in our society. I’m not concerned that the cheapest property (formerly Mediterranean Ave.) has gone from $60 to $600,000. Or that the railroads are now airports. My beef is with the new cash on card system.

In a world where it’s already hard enough to find someone who can count back correct change in a drive thru, is it really too much to ask that you have basic math skills before embarking on a 3 day long game of Monopoly? We’re not asking anybody to compound interest here. I just need somebody to make change when I buy Ventnor Ave. for $260 and want to pay with my $500. Now just swipe a card. If you ask me this is the Monolpoly: No Thinking Required edition. Is this the kind of behavior we want to encourage?

Mark my words, the day will come when you walk into BK, order some chicken fries, hand the kid behind the counter a twenty, and get nothing but a blank stare for a few seconds while he tries to figure out what to do with it. “Uhh…debit or credit?” he’ll say.

More Guild Wars stuff.

Been playing the new expansion lately. Got me some sweet “slim spectacles”. Apparently they’re tough enough to be considered “armor”!

“Hmmm….probably a trap.”

Loving the environment though. Kudos to the artists.

So that’s about it. Didn’t have much else to post about. So you get a GW update. haha. Sorry all you non-nerds!

How long until they die?

I planted some flowers just the other day. Something I’ve never done in the past that I can recall. I’ve planted a few vegitables but nothing that’s supposed to look pretty. I’m known more for my Nintendo thumb than my green thumb, so we’ll see how long they last. I was told that mid to late september is the best time to plant this stuff, but who knows.

Anyway, they look good for now. Much better than the dirt rocks and weeds that was there before hand. Like everything else it seems, I’m not striving for perfection, just “better than it was”. Which I figure over the long run is a pretty good strategy to have isn’t it?

Anywho, just wanted to share, and show a picture while they at least look decent. I’ll TRY to keep them alive!

Free music without all the jail time.

Kudos to the record companies (well one at least) for finally acknowledging the non-traditional means of generating revenue that the internet can provide. The website recently launched which allows users (folks just like you and me) to download as many songs as they want, listen to them however many times they want, absolutely free of charge. Instead of the music label getting it’s cash from you, they instead get a cut of Spiral Frog’s advertising revenue.

It’s not a perfect scenario though. Universal is the only record company to jump on board so far, but they are the largest label in the world, and have several great artists like Maroon 5, and Bon Jovi amongst others. Also every Spiral Frog file will be laden with restrictive DRM which restricts how you can use your music. You aren’t allowed to burn their songs to CD , they only work on some portable MP3 player and they don’t work with the iPod/Phone/Tunes/Shoes. Basically they want to ensure that you’re only getting the songs from Which considering they’re giving you the music for free is fair enough.

More to sleep than sleeping?

There’s few things about day to day life I dislike more than waking up. Seems like no matter how much or how little I sleep, I never wake up feeling rested. Sure after about 10 minutes of being up I feel rejuvenated and ready to face the day. But that first waking moment that you’re laying in the bed squinting at the sun filtering in through the blinds, there’s nothing I’d rather do than go back to sleep. I’m just not a morning person I guess.

I usually go to bed around midnite or 12:30 and set my alarm for 8:30. I figure that’s a good eight hours of sleep. Today I decided to change up my routine for one reason or another, I set my alarm for 7:30 instead. I still hit the snooze button once, but I got up much more easily today than in recent memory. There wasn’t the general haziness, I was up out of bed and alert…weird.

I’ve always heard you can sleep too much, but I thought they meant like ten hours (not eight) being too much! They also say you’re supposed to set a consistent time to go to bed and a consistent time to get up. I believe that, and I guess that’s why I’m so surprised I got up as easily as I did the same day I changed it.

So less sleep is more I guess? Fine with me. It just gets in the way of things I’d rather be doing anyway!

The final hours…

Well, this is it… My last day of employment.  OK, honestly my last day of employment was August 31.  It remains to be seen if I’ll get paid for the past couple of weeks.  That’s ok, I’ll just sit quietly and eat my serving of guilt.  Maybe I am just a cynical person (ya think?) but something doesn’t seem right.

So, after this job is over I have a few goals.  Spoil Bryson to the fullest extent, take a road trip with Duane and roll all the change in my K-State coin bank.  Oh, yeah, and get another job!

The worst part of all of this will be getting used to NOT having money in my pocket.  Waitressing spoiled me.  I’d leave every day with twenty or more dollars in cash.  Shoot, some days when I worked double shifts I made over a hundred bucks in tips!  I see a lifestyle change in my future!  haha

Fuggin’ Terrorists!

Look what they’ve done to our precious Lady Liberty!  Everything she stands for!  Freedom!  The pursuit of happiness!  Construction with cheap materials!  EVERYTHING America is founded upon!

Okay actually it was just Andrea knocking the miniature statue off the shelf.  I always knew she was a crusader of evil.  But I sure thought that the Statue of Liberty could survive a three foot fall.  I guess that’s what we get for constructing her out of plastic.  And here I thought it was copper, or at least pewter.

Starting the New Life

Well, I recently made a HUGE life decision. I am wanting to go into the IT business for computers, and K-State doesn’t exactly offer anything specifically for that. I was getting fed up with all of the computer programming classes that I was taking and some that I was having to retake. So, I decided to drop out and go to work full-time for this semester. I just hated wasting money in a program that I didn’t like. It would take me longer to graduate and more money, since I wasn’t interested in the classes, and eventually would probably have to retake them.

I am currently looking for some kind of job in that field around here so I can gain some experience and move on to bigger and better things. I might be going to the technical college around here, but it just depends on whether or not I can get a job. I am looking to study for some certifications on my own this semester so my resume can look a little better.

It’s going to be tough, but I wouldn’t have made this decision if I wasn’t in it for the long haul. I know that people are going to judge me and tell me that it was a bad idea to drop out of K-State, but I’ll just have to deal with it because this is MY decision. All I really want from everyone is a “Good luck” or “I support you” kinda stuff. I just want everyone to understand and listen to my explanations too.

Here’s my plan: I’m working full time this semester to save up money, getting a couple of certifications, finding a job in my field, going to tech college next semester (if I have to), and just moving on with my life and stop wasting money in something I don’t want to do.

F$%# you, Ford!

So I go out get ready to change the spark plugs in Andrea’s car last night since she can’t remember the last time they’d been changed. I just bought some new extensions and swivel heads for my socket set so I can get the job done. And I get the four on the passenger side done fine. Seeing as how her car is a 4 cylinder normally the job would be done at that point. But no!

ONLY at Ford would they decide that a 4 cyl motor needs 8 spark plugs. And ONLY at Ford could you stick a little 2 liter four banger into the SAME SPACE that fits a 5.0 V8 and STILL make it be a bitch to get to things. I ended up getting it done, but not without losing a big chunk of skin trying to get my hand UNDERNEATH the intake manifold to pull the wires off, and a new set of plug wires because one of them just disintegrated in my hand. That and a lot of swearing.

Friggin’ Fords.
