HP Bloatware

Seriously. Can you not hook a printer up just to print? Do you really need ink monitoring levels, a photo processing center, newsletter, and automatic updates? All I want to do is print a document once in a while.

Maybe I’ve been out of the old school hardware scene for a while, but it took a good 30 minutes to install the driver and all the damn software for an old HP3900 here at work. Surely there’s some third party drivers out there that you can install to give you basic printing functions, that don’t bog down this already bogged down hardware!

  1. hate to break it to you but you didnt need to install all of that.

if you had to download the driver from HP more than likly the exe extracted everything to a folder on the HD all you had to do was cancel the install locate the folder (c:\hp”or random string of numbers”\drivers\etc…)and install the driver through device manager.

if you were installing from a cd all you had to do was explore the cd and locate the driver and repeat installation step from device manager.

assuming you were installing it on a win2000/XP machine.

  2. Look at the bright side… You killed 30 minutes!

  3. Very true, Biebs. Why didn’t I try that? =P

  4. well maybe because not everyone thinks to do it that way … but then again bloatware wouldnt be made if everyone knew how or thought to do that …lol
